If there is one thing I love, it is the Bouvier-Beales of Grey Gardens. Little and Big Edie, though their—ahem—lifestyle was a bit erratic, there is no one I feel more of a kindred spirit with than Little Edie. She is a true individual, free spirit. And I wish I could be as unabashedly herself as she was.
And girl gives GOOD FACE. I mean, come ON, look at this picture of her! She was such a beautiful, stylish woman.
Most of you know that I am a Grey Gardens fanatic. So it should come as no surprise that I just purchased this — “I Only Mark the Hours that Shine: Little Edie’s Diary, 1929.” This diary, a year in her life at age 11, is said to transcribe her handwritten diary that she kept for the entire year of 1929. Combine her life, lifestyle, and budding eccentricity with the historical significance of the year 1929, and you can see why this is bound to be a gem. I’m so excited I can hardly stand it!
There may be no marble faun, but I suppose I can handle that.
